Dealmakers Forum: A Conversation with Tim Ryan, U.S. House of Representatives (2003-2023)

What Unifies the Parties?
The key to pushing through bipartisan legislation is to find an issue that few can disagree with, former U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan told Paul Hughes, Deputy Chief Financial Officer & Head of Strategy for Mizuho Americas during the Mizuho | Greenhill Dealmakers Forum. Issues that involve veterans, the middle class or affordable prescription drugs can serve to unify both sides and highly factor into legislation getting passed.

Clean Energy: A Common Cause
The use of natural gas to replace coal in power generation is an issue that both parties can rally behind, former U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan told Paul Hughes, Deputy Chief Financial Officer & Head of Strategy for Mizuho Americas during the Mizuho | Greenhill Dealmakers Forum. Burning natural gas contributed to 50% of the reduction of U.S. CO2 emissions between 2005 and 2019.

An Argument for Government Reform
Streamlining the energy project permitting process is one example where government reform is needed, former U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan told Paul Hughes, Deputy Chief Financial Officer & Head of Strategy for Mizuho Americas, during the Mizuho | Greenhill Dealmakers Forum. It should take months, not years, to permit an energy project with no need for 11 agencies to be involved in the review process.
