Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd. (President & CEO: Hiroshi Saito) today, July 3, 2006, opened in Belgium the Brussels Branch of Mizuho Corporate Bank Nederland N.V. (Head Office: Amsterdam, Managing Director: Akifumi Ujita), a wholly-owned overseas subsidiary.
Belgium is located in the center of the European market, where steady economic growth is expected, and plays a major role as a financial hub, not only in the euro zone, but also on a global scale. Approximately 230 Japanese corporations, mainly in the chemical, automobile, and food industries, have already established operations in Belgium, primarily in the Brussels area, and approximately 30% of these companies have located their European headquarters in this area.
While Mizuho Corporate Bank has been providing support and services to its customers in Belgium through Amsterdam, the opening of Brussels Branch will enable Mizuho to provide more community-based services to our customers who wish to engage in business in the European market through headquarters located in Belgium.
