Mizuho Bank, Ltd. (President & CEO: Koji Fujiwara) today began providing Mizuho Eco Finance* services to DIC Corporation (Representative Director, President and CEO: Kaoru Ino).
Mizuho Eco Finance is one way that Mizuho Bank is taking action alongside our clients to advance the shift to a low–carbon society. It is a financial product tied to environmental assessment, through which we are providing financing to clients who meet a certain minimum score based on our scoring system. The scoring system utilizes an environmental assessment model developed by Mizuho Information & Research Institute, Inc. to evaluate client initiatives and benchmarks via a globally accepted environmental verification and evaluation program.
Mizuho has recognized DIC for becoming a supporter of the Task Force on Climate–related Financial Disclosures in May 2019, disclosing the CO₂ emissions from its entire supply chain, and developing a plan to reduce its CO₂ emissions from industrial production by 2030.
In FY2018, Mizuho Information & Research Institute led a project for Japan’s Ministry of the Environment that supported corporations in setting science–based targets to hold global warming to 2℃, and as part of the project worked with DIC. It became clear that to shift to low carbon DIC must reduce greenhouse gas emissions from not only its own operations but also its entire supply chain, including supplier manufacturing processes and product disposal and recycling. Going forward, Mizuho will provide scenario analysis and advisory to assist DIC in reducing its supply chain greenhouse gas emissions.
At Mizuho, we are working to further incorporate sustainability initiatives into our strategy and strengthen our group–wide framework for promoting sustainability. We will draw on our expertise as a financial services group to proactively provide a wide range of solutions, including advisory and capital financing support, to businesses that are contributing to the shift to a low–carbon society.
