Warning about Hoax Emails (phishing scams)

Recently there have been incidences of hoax e-mails fraudulently using the Mizuho name (as discussed below) and Mizuho Bank is warning customers to be aware.

These emails use the Mizuho Bank logo and copyright to notify customers about credit cards, etc. and contain links to the Mizuho Bank website. By clicking on the link the customer is taken to a website that appears identical to the genuine Mizuho Bank website. Customers are required to enter their information, including their address and credit card number, in an attempt to fraudulently obtain the customer's personal information.

  • At this stage, there have been no definite reports of Mizuho Bank customers falling victim to this hoax. But if a customer receives a suspicious e-mail, Mizuho Bank asks customers to heed caution and not access the link or enter their Mizuho Direct ID and password, their cash card PIN, deposit account number, or credit card number.

Unsolicited emails and email scams that use the Mizuho name

Unsolicited emails

Cases of unsolicited emails claiming to be from Mizuho Bank and using subjects such as "account password confirmation" to notify customers of online banking passwords have been verified. By opening an attached file or clicking on a link in the email, the customer may download a virus. Mizuho Bank does send emails advising customers about products or services, but it never informs customers of their passwords via e-mail. Please delete any unsolicited emails.

Email scams

Recently people have been falling victim to email scams (phishing) that attempt to fraudulently acquire personal information. These scams involve an email purporting to be from legitimate companies, including banks. The recipients of these emails are directed to access a spoof website and enter their details, such as user ID and passwords used in banking transactions.

Mizuho Bank website addresses and e-mail source addresses (the sender, "From:") appear below. If a suspicious email is received, the Bank asks customers to heed caution and not to access links or enter their user ID and passwords in the accessed website.
