New York, June 20, 2024 – Mizuho Americas today announced it received two awards recognizing its partnership with Genesys Works New York City (GWNYC) at the nonprofit’s 2024 Breaking Through Ceremony in Manhattan. The awards honored Mizuho for being a Founding Corporate Partner and Founding Philanthropic Partner when Genesys Works, a national organization that creates career opportunities and pathways for young people in underserved communities, expanded its program to New York City five years ago. Mizuho was also Presenting Sponsor of the event.

The event celebrated GWNYC’s fifth anniversary, as well as its graduating 51 Young Professionals who completed eight weeks of rigorous business and technology training and meaningful, school year-long internships during their senior year of high school.

“Genesys Works has had a transformative impact on the lives of hundreds of students in the New York City area, helping them achieve invaluable learning and experiences informing their future educational and professional decisions,” said Jean MacInnes, Managing Director and Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Mizuho Americas. “This is a true two-way partnership where our organization benefits in equal measure. We are investing in our future as much as theirs, expanding our pool of talent and widening the perspectives of our workforce.”

“Multifaceted partnerships, like the one Genesys Works NYC has with Mizuho, are invaluable to our success,” said Mike Gross, Executive Director, Genesys Works NYC. “Mizuho is hosting interns, investing philanthropically, volunteering, and producing a video to spread the word about this important collaboration. They have shown how deeply invested they are in preparing and supporting the future workforce. Mizuho was one of the first companies in New York City to see value in our mission, and they have helped us build the foundation for our ongoing success.”

Since 2019, Mizuho’s partnership with GWNYC has resulted in nearly three dozen internships out of our New York and Chicago offices, and a quarter million dollars in philanthropic support from the firm and the Mizuho USA Foundation. Mizuho also continues to support the organization through annual professional development workshops and events for employees and young professionals, focused on strengthening interview skills, resume writing, and financial literacy.

“We knew Genesys Works NYC was a great idea with tremendous potential, but it has exceeded our expectations in just five short years,” said Lesley Palmer, Managing Director and Head of Community Relations & Corporate Sustainability, Mizuho Americas. “We are excited to see what the future holds for Genesys Works NYC and their young professionals.”
