We are delighted to invite you to join us as Stanford Professor, Stephen Kotkin discusses the current major geopolitical issues, providing insights into the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, how it might evolve, how it may impact the US-China rivalry and what are wider implications for the Asian region.
The conversation will be joined by Takehito Yamamoto, our Senior Director, Industry Research Department at Mizuho, who will present the short-term forecast of the global and Asian economy and discuss the economic impacts of a ”decoupling world”.

rofessor Stephen Kotkin | Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies Scholar
Professor Kotkin has been called “one of the nation’s most compelling observers of foreign affairs.” He is the Kleinheinz Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Affairs, both at Stanford University, as well as the Birkelund Professor of History and International Affairs Emeritus at Princeton University. He founded and co-edited a book series on Northeast Asia, directed Princeton’s Institute for International and Regional Studies, served as the business book reviewer for the New York Times Sunday Business section, and is currently working on his next book, “Stalin: Totalitarian Superpower, 1941-1990s”. Takehito Yamamoto | Senior Director Industry Research Department, Mizuho Economist
Graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Keio University (Japan), and completed the Master of Economics in Fern Universität in Hagen (Germany). In 2006, he joined Mizuho Corporate Bank (currently Mizuho Bank). After working in the Global Trade Finance Division (Tokyo and London) and the Industry Research Department, he has been in the Research Department of Mizuho Research Institute (currently Mizuho Research & Technologies) since 2019. He has been in his current position since 2022.
