Israel is one of the world’s leading countries for innovation and entrepreneurship. A large number of startups with high technology competence in a wide variety of sectors, including cybersecurity, IoT, electronics, mobility, nanotechnology, neuroscience, biotechnology, the environment and energy have been born in Israel. Many global technology companies have also established their R&D and startup coordination bases in Israel.
Gav-Yam Negev is an advanced technology park located in the special R&D zone of the Beersheba region in southern Israel, and is operated in cooperation with Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, which is carrying out advanced research centering on cybersecurity. In recent years, this region has been rapidly growing by producing many Science&Technology-based start-ups and accumulating R&D bases of multinational corporations.
Kyoto Research Park opened in 1989 as the first privately run research park in Japan, where 480 institutions and corporations are active. It promotes local innovation through cooperation among industry, academic research institutes and public institutions such as by providing startup and business support programs.
With this Memorandum of Understanding in effect, Mizuho Information & Research Institute will begin building cooperative business relations between Japan and Israel, including cooperative activities and promotion of joint research and development by companies in both countries by sharing information on business needs, technology, etc. between Gav-Yam Negev and Kyoto Research Park.
Through future activities, Mizuho Information & Research Institute will contribute to the development of both Japanese and Israeli companies by promoting Japanese companies’ research and development projects in Israel as well as matching them with Israeli startup companies, and by supporting Israeli companies starting business in Japan.
